Gemini Program Space Walk   On June 3, 1965, astronaut Edward White II became the first American to make an extra-vehicular activity (EVA), or space walk. White was tethered to the Gemini 4 space capsule by a lifeline that supplied him with oxygen. In his right hand is a small rocket powered by compressed gas to help him manoeuvre in space.
