Good site. You forget Shiela Scott, though. With as many as 200+ records at one time flying her "Myth Two". "Myth One" was destroyed in a storm. For example, she flew the Pacific using chewing gum to stop a leak in an internal fuel tank - we took the rear seats out to accomodate the extra fuel needed. And so on, a relly great flyer in her natural element, but on the ground a difficult person.

We're working on a trivia test for Women's History month--one of the questions is: "who was the first woman to make a solo flight over the Atlantic Ocean in 1898? we can't find a thing. If anyone has any cluse, please email me. thanks!

I visited your site in the hope of having a question answered. In March of 1928 a woman attempted to fly around world by going west. On march 14, 1928 she was missing. Can you tell me her name and something about her? Thanks, Nick.

Wonderful site. I'll be visiting again - I am doing research on women fighter pilots for a novel I am writing. Got my private 3 years ago, had to let it lapse in favor of raising my family, but hope to be flying again someday!

Terrific web site! Congratulations! I have long been supportive of women in aviation and rightfully so. My mother, Frances Emily Walker, was the first woman to learn to fly in Wyoming (in the 1930's). My father, WD "Pic" Walker, ran three CPT flight schools during WWII and had, himself, learned to fly starting in 1924. He taught my Mom so he could advertize "...If we can teach HER to fly, we can teach YOU to fly!" That would not go over to great now days... Emily Howell Warner, the nation's first female pilot of a regular scheduled airline flew her first flight as a first officer with me in 1974 at good ol' Frontier Airlines. Later, Emily became the first female airline captain and, in 1986, captained the first all female flight crew. Linda Christopherson, now an America West captain, was the first officer. I don't remember the names of the flight attendants.

Great site! Found out about it from my Garden State Chapter 99s newsletter. Always nice knowing the accomplishments of women in aviation are recognized.

On the 19th of June 1998 I obtained my license to learn (private pilots license) at the age of 43. I am a registered nurse by profession, a pilot by passion. I'd love to strike up an E-Mail Pen Pal situation with other women private pilots. Statistics reveal that there are very few of us out there, fewer than 6% of all licensed pilots in the US are women. It's hard to meet other woment who share the passion. I'd love to hear from others.
