Essay Responses
  1. What did you learn from this project?
From this project we learned an incredible amount about a variety of subjects. We started out learning the basics of web design, and later graphical design. Though we initially had quite a few problems, we eventually started developing a tolerable web site. While collecting links and developing information for the site, we also came across quite a bit of interesting chemistry information. That is where the chemistry factoids got their birth, with the news updates also becoming a necessity. However, we believe that the thing we learned most about was public relations. In dealing with reporters, chemistry organizations, and (most of all) chemistry students, we were able to put together a web site that is beneficial to everyone.
  2. Did you use the World Wide Web to research your project? How?
We first learned how to write html through the web, and (of coarse) we spent many hours gathering links for our search engine and topic pages.
  3. How did the project help you in your coursework?
This product was developed as a computer science department internship, but the skills and information learned help in coursework ranging from business to art, from journalism to social science. But most of all, in web design and chemistry.
