Design Paradise--Kauai: Its Beauty will Never be Defeated
By: Christy Horita

picture of a waterfall
Blue Skies and warm sandy beaches
where cool Kona winds may blow,
coconut palms sway in the breeze,
    on land lush greeneries grow.
    Tropical paradise, home to many,
    a beautiful sight to see,
a place so special, my island home,
Kauai means so much to me.
But along came Iniki with violent winds
that leveled so much of the land,
    Kama'ainas together, now must work
    and cooperate hand in hand.
Iniki's destruction was worse than Iwa
no words could describe my home,
beautiful Kauai cut off from the world,
    a feeling of being alone.
No communication, no power for all,
    rebuilding may take ten years.
    Homeless people, lives undone,
and the shedding of many tears.
But we won't let Iniki ruin us
we'll recover as time does pass,
and trees will grow back, flowers will bloom
we won't let this sadness last.
For Kauai was destined to be paradise.
    its beauty will always remain,
and there is no way that we will let this event
    cause us any more pain.
And in a few years we'll be back on our feet,
you must come yourself to see,
    Kauai my beautiful island home,
and its beauty forever will be.
