Many families call Kauai home. Among them are the Miuras and the Victorinos, whose interviews are in this section. We were able to talk story with up to four generations of each family, learning about Kauai's past, how it has changed over the years and, most importantly, why it is special.

This section showcases the lifestyles of the people of Kauai. It features interviews with 3 to 4 generations of people from the Miura and Victorino families, all of whom were born and raised on Kauai.

This section compares and contrasts the needs and expectations of Kauai's residents with Kauai's visitors. It will aid in creating a balance among industry, environment, and population that will satisfy both residents and tourists.

Needs and Expectations of Residents and Visitors

When we interviewed Kauai Mayor Maryanne Kusaka, she explained to us her vision of the future Kauai. She said that 3 things need to be balanced--jobs and economy, business, and environment. She also wants to provide opportunities for young people who leave the island so that they may to return home to Kauai.
