So you want to Direct 2

Casting

And audition is probably what you need to find good actors and actresses. Look out for three things -

Remember your ultimate aim is to find the most convincing and strongest cast. Don't be fooled by looks or certificates. Help the actors and actresses relax before the audtition, so that they can perform to their best. Have a chat with them before and after the audition, but do not trash or raise hopes. When in a fix, discuss with a fellow production member. REMEMBER YOUR BUDGET.

Advertising

Okay, you can prepare your advertising stints. Here are some ways to increase the publicity of your films :

You can also start planning for 'behind-scenes' footage. Catch actors putting on make-up, fun moments on the set etc. And of course have interviews with the production team, actors and yourself.

Budget ChartBudget

The production manager should take care of the budget, and the director and designer must try their very best to stick to the budget. An extra sum of money must be left  for unexpected circumstances. If as a director, you think there should be a budget shift, like allocating more money to effects than to the cast, discuss with the production manager. Write out something like this :

Finding your sets

This is another difficult aspect of your film. Before you decide on a location, think : Does this place carry the mood of the film? Is it difficult to transport equipment to and from the set? Is there any possible danger or government intervention? Does using this place make you exceed your budget? After satisfying yourself with the answers to these questions, you can go ahead and book the place.
