SPEECH: Give your eyes a rest and let your
PC express itself with WillowTalk, an exciting application that enables
your computer to read text aloud from Web pages, Word documents, spreadsheets,
email, and help files in a variety of digital voices. Applications of the
speech technology are diverse: have your PC proofread a column of numbers
in a spreadsheet to compare against your hard copy; tinker with an application
while your computer reads the help file; have the time and date announced
at specified intervals; or create audio scripts in which multiple characters
speak their lines according to your requirements. You can easily modify
the male and female voices, making them speak faster or slower, for example.
WillowTalk even provides a free pronunciation dictionary that lets you
change how it handles selected words and unusual names. You can also use
the dictionary to provide instructions on expanding acronyms or skipping
symbols altogether.
