: I'm trying to help my daughter enjoy a little geometry. In as much, we decided to try to figure out how tall a telephone was. Hence, we could get the following data.

: It's a right triangle, so, we know one of the angles is 90 degrees.

: We know the base length. We measured that as well.

: Lastly, we know the angle of the hypotenuse which is 45 degrees, thus, the angle at the top is also 45 degrees.

: However, I don't remember what the formula is to calculate the heigth of the telephone. Can anyone help?

If the angle is 45° - then it is simple. In ADDITION to being a
right angled triangle -
it is also isosceles (sp?).

So the base and height are equal (for a 45° right-angled triangle).

So height of the telephone pole = base length.

By the ay, ho did you determine the angle of elevation without a survey equipment.

Or do you have one in your basement??
