In case you find this useful, Sir Miah, I would perform a simple rearrangement before continuing:
14r = (3-9) - (7^2)/7
That's MUCH easier to work with...
AND AGAIN notice that IF the minus sign is changes, you get THEIR answer:
14r = (3-9) PLUS (7^2)/7 = 1/14
Now if you ask me who goofed twice (you or the book), who do do think I'll pick??
