: : : We were trying to figure out what the sum of the first 1000 odd numbers and the first 1000 even numbers, but we kept getting different answers. If someone could help, we would appreciate it!
: : We finally got the same answer for even numbers. Now we just need odds. Thanks!

As stated by Mr.K, you are considering the sum of a finite arithmetic sequence (progression).
look in your notes or textbook to find the formula (or use the clues Mr.K. wrote to derive it on your own)
If using the textbook formula, you will need the following information, How many terms (numbers) are you adding... [that is, how many of the numbers from 1 to 1000 are even (or odd)],
and if you know the first and last (1 and 999 for odd, 2 and 1000 for even), you can evaluate the sum quickly.
good luck
