: I am trying to figure out the differences in these 3 graphs: cos(x), cos(x^2), cos(x^(1/2)). What changes in the graph and why ? What kind of transformation is this ?...I would really appreciate any input on this. Thank You in advance.

First think about it a bit then plot it:
cos(x) - this you should know. uniform across the domain
cos(x^2) - As you increase/decrease 'x' - does the function get more and more crunched or spread?
What is the domain of this function? Can 'x' be negative? Does it affect the 'y' values - what is the range?
cos[x^(1/2)] - Same questions...As you increase/decrease 'x' - does the function get more and more crunched or spread?
