Your answer is correct, but you did not the answer which I asked! So I'm afraid you get a zero for this problem ;-)

I know if can be solved by making the substitution of v = y/x, but I need to prove that if you don't make that substitution it cannot be separated.

Subhotosh earlier referred to a technique using partial deriviates which would provide the proof. Are you aware of this technique and if so can you explain how it works?
