Evidently, you aren't familiar with or have forgotten the "Pythagorean Identities".

They are:

sin^2(x) + cos^2(2) = 1

tan^2(x) + 1 = sec^2(x)

cot^2(x) + 1 = csc^2(2)

You see, THAT is how the functions are tied together.

It's obvious (now) that the exercise was designed deliberately to test your knowledge
of these identities.

So, for the first one: sin^2(x) = 1 - cos^2(x). And we're done!
