In some courses, "gradient" is an alternate name for the slope, in which case they are talking
about the "slope function" or the first derivative. And THAT, I would guess, is what
they want you to graph.
For example: For a parabola, y = x^2 - 3x + 2, its gradient function would be its derivative:
y' = 2x - 3, a straight line.
