how do u figure out the gradient function graph?

when ur given the original graph and told to 'sketch the gradient function'... and it doesn't make any sense! (does n e 1 know what i'm talking about?? coz the 3unit math people at my school have no idea...and i'm only doing 2unit.... HELP!!)
