Veganet is the team's first entry in the Thinkquest learning competition. Team 20922 is comprised of two student members and three coaches. All communication was done through the Internet. Below is information on each team member.
Gary Gong I attend Ukiah High School and have received straight A's from elementary through high school. Other than computers, my interests include music and performing arts. I am a member of the Ukiah Youth Symphony playing the violin. I am also an accomplished pianist, currently attempting to perfect a Schubert Impromptu. I'm also a lifetime (so far in my high school career) member of CSF (California Scholarship Federation). I was beta tester for Windows 98, so I had exclusive access to all of Microsoft's support groups (which helped target program errors which were preventing progress of site production). Tracing my roots back to Asia, I visited the City of 10,000 Buddhas often and could retrieve useful information without much effort. Without an after-school or summer job, I could access all research tools at the Ukiah Public Library and the City of 10,000 Buddhas as well as scour the Internet for vegan-related information. Going into my third year of Spanish in high school, I translated the entire site into Spanish (sorry, but there might still be a few grammatical errors in Spanish). Benjamin Shell When it comes to computers, I particularly enjoy graphics. I was on the CorelDRAW! 8 beta team during the summer and fall of 1997. This suite of Corel graphics applications was used to create the perfect combination of good-looking graphics mixed with a fast-loading page layout for the entire Veganet site. I also have a job at Retech, a local division of Lockhead Martin, which specializes in building plasma furnaces. I am a CAD detailer, working with the designers to create detailed drawings of each part. In the summer, I work eight hours per day, four days per week. During the school year, I have been able to work two to three hours per day. Even with my working schedule, I have managed to maintain a high grade point average at Ukiah High School. My interests in railroading goes back to a very young age. My dad took me to railroad museums and got me interested in model trains. Ever since the 1991 International Railfair, the Southern Pacific 4449 Daylight has been my favorite locomotive. Over a year and a half ago, I created a website about the Daylight locomotive. I have since expanded it into a much large site, called Daylight Deco, with 4449 Daylight information, web design and graphics services, Corel graphics tips, and more. |
