In the interview with, who runs a roofing company in California, you
can see, hear, or read for yourself about the positive impacts of El Niņo from someone
who knows.
The Questions:
Has El Niņo affected your business? If so, how?
It's affected our business quite a bit. It started picking up in July, we got
real busy in July, then busier in August, September. I mean, it's effected our business.
Our business has probably tripled from where we would be this time last year. But, it's
very much affected our business.
When did you get the big "push"?
When did you start receive the most numbers of phone calls regarding roofing work?
I think we got the big push in July, August and Septmeber
because they're worried about the El Niņo hitting in December and January. And I think
that a lot of people want to get their roofs done before the holidays, Christmas and New
Year, hit.
What are the most common concerns of most of your
clients?
The concerns are just getting on our list. First of all,
getting on our list to have one of our estimators come out and give a price on the
roofing. And once that happens, getting on our backlog list to get the actual roofing work
done. And right now we have about a two month backlog. And that's with a hundred guys. We
have a hundred roofers who actually work on the roofs. It's just a sense of urgency to get
the roofing work done before El Niņo hits, basically.
Because of this excessive demand, what problems are
you experiecing?
Our problem now is finding enough
qualified roofers to handle the amount of backlog we have. We are running about a hundred
guys right now. We've have an ad in the newspaper probably for the past four months and we
just can't find them. Two months ago, there were 23 roofing companies that ran ad in the
Unino Tribune trying to get qualified roofers. We've even went to the extent of running
ads in places like Nebraska, Ohio, places where winter's soon to hit and trying to get
guys from back east to get some work done...with not much luck at all.
