The Creators

This site was a group effort of dedicated people of such diverse nationalities as German, American, Indian, Chilean, and Malaysian. It was the first time any of the members or coaches had worked on a project of such stature, where communication was the most important, and the most difficult, task. The diversity of the team extended far beyond its nationalities. At the beginning, each team-member had knowledge of specific and isolated facets of the internet. Now, after the collaboration effort, they feel their ability has grown, not only in their specific fields, but in other fields as well, and that knowledge has also diffused to all members.

The members consider themselves very lucky to be part of a contest in which they are able to work with dedicated students and coaches from different continents and backgrounds. They hope to continue their "think-quests" next year with a new project.

Beeneet Kothari

Beeneet Kothari is a 16 year old student currently studying at Half Hollow Hills High School West.  He was born and raised in India until the age of 11 when he moved to New York.  His first access to a computer was in 1995 with a 486 DX2 66 MHz IBM PC.  Still using the same computer (with a few updates!), he has learned to use most of the common computer products. Beeneet's first access to the Internet occurred in 1997 when he made it a goal to learn HTML and other related languages.

However, by entering Thinkquest in 1998, his knowledge of the internet has increased vastly. Along his Thinkquest journey, he also learned to use software such as Macromedia's Flash and Microsoft FrontPage. Most importantly, as team leader of Team 20901, he has learned the discipline and dedication required to collaborate, cooperate, and arrange online meetings when working with students from different continents and backgrounds. In essence, however, he is very proud to be a participant of a contest where he would end up learning much more than a few new HTML tags!

Chin Wei Min

Chin Wei Min was born in Malaysia. Currently, he is 16 years old and lives in a city in Malaysia known as Johor Bahru. He started using the computer when he was 9 years old, but it was not until he was 14 years old that he was connected to the Internet. As an amateur, he explores the web himself. He started to create his own website when Chin was 15 years old, but still has to master the skill.

By entering the Thinkquest competition, not only was he able to learn new things such as Perl scripts, but also learned more about the El Niņo phenomenon. Chin is a Geography student and therefore very interested in Earth's natural events. Through this competition, he now knows more about the history of El Niņo, as well as its formation and effects. For Chin Wei Min, it was a pleasure to work with two Americans, though communication was a problem they encountered while working together. Nevertheless, they have managed to put up the website. He hopes that this team can work together in the future. It was quite an experience for him.

Robert Victor

Robert Victor is a 17 year old currently studying at Half Hollow Hills High School West. His first computer was a big old piece of metal called a 386 IBM personal computer. At the time, it was an incredible machine, for him a great and early introduction to personal computing. Now, three computers later, he uses a Pentium 133 with a 28.8 modem, mostly for his schoolwork and especially for his AP Computer Science class. In this class he is instructed in advanced C++ programming. He is also proficient in Pascal after years of instruction. However, he had little experience in HTML before Thinkquest. This was a new experience for him and he learned a great deal about internet languages.

Science research was not new for Robert. He spent this summer studying physics at Brookhaven National Laboratories. However, he had never studied much about the environment before. This project was a great experience for him to leave his niche in science and broaden his horizons. The results were spectacular and his newfound knowledge of El Niņo and other meteorology will benefit him in years to come. The Thinkquest project was a perfect opportunity for Robert to learn new and interesting sciences while working with new and interesting people.
