There are over 50,000 known species of fungi, and these have changed very little over the millions of years that they have existed for. Funguses both grow on land and in the water, but, contrary to popular belief, only a small portion of those are visible because most grow underground or very near to the surface. The best temperature for fungi to grow well in is from 20° to 30° . Certain types of fungi, have been known to survive at temperatures as high as 48° C, while many fungi do well at freezing temperatures, 0° C or below.
