A new type of plant went from almost nothing in the late Cretaceous to almost everything in the Cenozoic. The evolution of flowers is floral success story. Flowering plants are known scientifically as angiosperms (covered seeds). They were able to thrive in prettey much any climate - hot, cold, dry, or wet - because of this protective shell. Angiosperm species survived much more often and were able to reproduce more than the other plants, gymnosperms (naked seeds) because of their resistance to the outside weather. In this way, they thrived and rose to be the most powerful of all plants. |
