Although ferns had not arrived yet, they were a major plant thrughout the entirre Paleozoic. Ferns are another plant that has stayed virtually unchanged over the millions of years they have existed. They grow from spores instead of from seeds. The Ferns of this time period are very important to us today, because their decomposed organic matter is the coal that is used at fuel around the world. Because they covered such a large part of the Earth, there is a vast amount of coal underground today. Ferns live everywhere on earth besides deserts and polar regions. |
