Geology:

North America and Europe continued to collide. There was an uplift in the geology of northwestern Europe, causing many sandstone deposits. The climate was mostly warm and dry.

Animal Life:

The period is known as the age of the fishes, because of the abundant fish fossils that have been found from this time. Fish had become adapted to fresh water as well as salt water, for the first time in history. The fish of this time included: jawless fish, jawed armored fish, early sharks, and bony fish. Amphibians later evolved from the bony fish. Trilobites continued to decrease in population.

Plant Life:

Many plants evolved on land. These new types included ferns, clubmosses, and the first plants to reproduce with seeds.
