Costumes For Gymnasts

Female Gymnasts

Female gymnasts wear leotards, usually of a lycra fabric that allows maximun movement. Leotards like all clothing, change with fashion and rhythmic gymnastics has its own fashion parades. These range from plain dark colours to multi-colours, from stripes and sports to floral designs, high necks, V-necks and round necks, but nearly all having long sleeves. The old, thick nylon stretch leotard has long since been replaced by a multitude of 'silky' outfits which shows a sign of these new, popular and readily available leisure wear. Competitors wear a half shoe to cover their toes.

Basic rules gymnasts follow :

I The leotard looks neat and tidy. A sloppy appearance would affect the overall presentation.

I For safety and good overall presentation, hair should be neatly tied up.

I No jewellery is allowed.

IGym shoes may be worn, but being bare-footed is the best.

Artistic Gymnasts

The gymnast sticks to only one leotard for a whole competition, because they very often have to wear a number tag on their backs.

Rhythmic Gymnasts

It is not complusory for rhythmic gymnasts to change their leotards but they can do so to create a different mood for each apparatus.
