Sports Acrobatics

Acrobatics were popular in the 18th century in Europe, since circus performances were popular. Variations of acrobatics can be seen in many sports today such as diving, trampoline, ski-acrobatics, ice skating, vaulting on horseback and artistic roller skating.

Sports Acrobatics concentrates on acrobatic feats and tumbling and is spectacular to watch.

Sports Acrobatics was developed in Eastern Europe and in the Soviet Union. Its first tournament was held in 1957 in Warsaw.Western countries began to compete in Sports Acrobatics involving tumbling and gymnasts went in pairs, trios and fours.

The International Federation of Sports Acrobatics was founded in Moscow in 1973. The following year, the first championship was held in Moscow. Initially, the world championship took place every two years but from 1994 onwards, these competitions have been held yearly.
