Ginsengfarm Bockhorn
The owners of the FloraFarm in Bockhorn have been
occupying with ginseng for about 15 years. Being the only ginsengfarm in
whole Europe and having arranged the cultivation of ginseng in quality
of medicine in spite of sneer and difficulties at the beginning, it is
something particular.
Ginseng is harvested after 6 years in September or
Oktober. Before you could see only three small leaflets in the first year,
four of them in the second year. First in the third year five leaves increase
for the first time along with the first seed.
After the harvest the root of ginseng has to be dried
as fast as possible. This is done in an oven at 36°C and lastes about
8 to 10 days. Thereby the root shrinks around 2/3 of its prior volume and
after that it is either selled in this form or processed to capsules
first, which contain 500mg of ginseng.
