Behind the last pair of legs there are the two breathing openings (Stigmes), which are surrounded by flower-like chitin structures. You can see that the skin is folded, which allows the tick to get about 50 times biggger while bloodsucking.
If you put oil on the sucking tick, the breathing openings get plugged op and the tick tries to get away.
But before this it vomits the contents of the proboscis into the wound and transmits so the pathogens into the blood of the animal or human. Because of this the removal by fast pulling out is the safest method.
