Because of their exact circular shape and their flat body these mites are called turtle mites.

When resting, they hold their legs close to the body, so that you can only see the shield.

They mainly live in mossy parts of rotten tree trunks. Nothing has been known about their way of eating. Probably they eat decaying organic materials or maybe other tiny animals.
