More about Hydrogen

Hydrogen is the smallest natural element known to man. It contains 1 proton and 1 electron, and possesses one of the simplest atomic structures known:

For those of you not familiar with the term "isotope," an isotope of an element is an atom that contains the same number of protons but different numbers of neutrons. Thus deuterium, with 1 proton and 1 neutron, is an isotope of hydrogen. Tritium, which has 1 proton and 2 neutrons, is also an isotope of hydrogen.

Keep in mind that all isotopes must have the same number of protons and electrons as the original element. An atom with, for instance, 3 protons would not be an isotope of hydrogen.
