Taeguk1zang
Taeguk means gun in the 8 map. The gun means the sky and the sun. The gun is to the orgin of all
things what poomsae is to the taekwondo. As the special, it is composed of walking mainly in the
seogi and arae-makki(underneath makki), momtong-makki(trunk makki), momtong-jireugi(trunk
opposite side jireugi), ap-chagi(front kick) in the motion. It is the poomsae of 8 grade in the
Taekwondo.
Taeguk2zang
It means Tae in the 8 map. The tae means strong inward and smooth outward. After practicing
Taeguk 1 zang, you can learn makki, chaki. In this zang, new motion is the olgul makki(face makki)
and you can learn ap-chagi more. It is the poomsae of 7 grade in the Taekwondo.
Taeguk3zang
It means Yi in the 8 map. Yi means fire(hot and bright). You can be promoted blue tti in this course.
The new motions are sonnal mok-chigi(hand-blade neck chigi), sonnal makki(hand-blade makki),
new seogi is dwikup and technique is the sequent makgo-chagi and chago yeonsok jireugi. It is the
poomsae of 6 grade in the Taekwondo.
Taeguk4zang
It means zin in the 8 map. Zin means a thunder(strong power and dignity). In this course, there are
many technique and motion of high level. The new motions are sonnal momtong-makki,
pyonsonkkut-jireugi, jebipoommok-chigi, yop-chagi(side kick), momtongbakkat-makki,
dungjumeokolgulapae-chigi.
Taeguk5zang
It means Son in the 8 map. Son means wind (power and silence according to the weak and strong
wind). In this course, you can control the weak and strong power. The new motions are Mejumeok
naeryo-chigi(hammer downward chigi, which usually hits the head), Palkup
dollyo-chigi(turning-chigi), Yopchamyoyop-jireugi, Palkup pyojeok-chigi(target-chigi),
Kkowa-seogi(twist stance), Wen-seogi(left-hand stance), Oreun-seogi(right-hand stance). It is the
4 grade course in the Taekwondo.
Taeguk6zang
It means Gam in the 8 map. Gam means water(continual flow and flexibility). You must do the
connection of the technique like water. The new motions are Hansonnal olgul bakkat-makki,
Dollyo-chagi(turning kick), Olgul bakkat-makki, Batangson momtong-makki. Pyonhisigi appears in
the midst of Poomsae. It is the 3 grade course in the Taekwondo.
Taeguk7zang
It means Gan(the mountain) in the 8 map. Gan means heavy and hard. When you obtain the red
belt, you can have the strong power. The new motions are Sonnal arae-makki, Batangson
kodureo-makki, Murup-chigi(knee hitting), Momtong hecho-makki, Pyojeok-chigi(target chigi),
Yop-jireugi(side jireugi), Beom-seogi(tiger stance), Juchum-seogi(riding stance). It is the 2 grade in
the Taekwondo.
Taeguk8zang
It means Gon(darkness and soil). Gon means root, stability, start and ending. After you practice
from the 1 zang to the 8 zang, you will obtain the qualification of the promoting test in the
kukgiwon. The new motions are Dubaldangsang bakkat palmok momtong kodureo bakkat-makki,
Wesantle-makki, Teok-jireugi, Kodureoarae-makki, Palkup dollyo-chagi. It is the 1 grade in the
Taekwondo.
KORYO
Koryo is the name of an ancient dynasty in the Korean peninsula. The English name of "Korea" is
originated from the name of this "Koryo" Dynasty which was famed for its cultural achievements
such as Koryo ceramic and for the valiant spirit of its people with which they defeated the
Mongolian aggression.

KUMGANG
The word "Kumgang" has originally the meaning of being too strong to be broken. Also in
Buddhism, what can break off every agony of mind with combination of wisdom and virtue is called
"Kumgang". The Poomsae "Kumgang" is named after Mount Kumgang, symbol of solidity.
"Kumgang" is also analogous to "diamond".

TAEBACK
"Taeback" is the ancient name of Mount Paekdu where the legendary Tangun founded a nation for
the first time in the Korean peninsula some 4,300 years ago. Poomsae "Taeback" takes its
principles of movement from the word "Taeback" which means being looked up to as sacred.

PYONGWON
"Pyongwon" is meant by 'vast plain'. The plain is a source of sustaining the human life and, on the
other hand, a great open plain stretching out endlessly gives us a feeling of majesty that is different
from that we feel with a mountain or the sea. An application of the providence of the plain which is
blessed with abundance and grace as well as boundless vastness into the practice of Taekwondo
is Poomsae Pyongwon(plain).

SHIPJIN
Shipjin has the meaning of 'decimal system' Which stands for a symbolical figure of 10 meaning
endless development and growth in a systematic order. In Poomsae Shipjin, stability is sought in
every change of movements.

JITAE
According to the Oriental belief, all living things come from and return to the earth(Chitae is derived
from the meaning of the earth). The earth is indeed the origin and terminal of life. Living things as
well as all the natural phenomena of the earth originate mainly from the changes and the form of
earth. Poomsae "Jitae" is the movement which applies these features of the earth.

CHUNKWON
"Chunkwon" signifies the sky. From ancient times the Orientals have always believed and
worshipped the sky as ruler of the universe and human beings. The infinitely vast sky may be a
mysterious and profound world of magination in the eyes of finite human beings. Poomsae
Chunkwon is composed of the motions which are full of piety and vitality.

HANSOO
Poomsae "Hansoo" derived from the word 'water' is typical with its fluidity and adaptability as
manifested in the nature of water.

ILYEO
"Ilyeo" signifies oneness. In buddhism the state of spiritual cultivation is said to be
"Ilyeo"(oneness), in which body and mind, I(subject) and you(object), spirit and substance are
unified into oneness. The ultimate ideal of Taekwondo lies in this state of Ilyeo. The final goal
Taekwondo pursues is indeed a discipline in which we concentrate attention on every movement,
shaking off all wordly thoughts and obsession.
