The Screen Resolution and Color Depth Tutorial

This is how to change your settings in a Windows '95 or Windows '98 environment.

Changing your system's setting is easy - but be reminded that depending on your video card will determine how drastically you can change these settings. To get to this screen, you can right-click on the desktop. A menu should come up that says this (see picture)... "Properties" will not be highlighted as I have it in this picture.

This is the menu you should have when you right click on the desktop.

You're going to want to click on the "Properties" selection. (I have it highlighted in yellow) It will bring you to a screen similar to this (see picture)... The "systems" panel is highlighted in yellow. (it won't look exactly like that on your computer, and the number of panels may be fewer - or different)

After you click on "Properties", click on the "Settings" panel.

What you want to do now is click on the "settings" panel and it will bring you to another screen. (shown here)

Now you can change the system settings.

You can now select different color palettes to increase your color depth. Also, by dragging your slider bar on the "Desktop Area" will increase or decrease its size. Keep in mind though, the higher the desktop area - the less amount of colors you can display in the "Color palette". Most computers are now capable of an 800x600 desktop area (resolution) and 16-bit color, and that's what we recommend our web site to be viewed with.
