Rita Rex Smith graduate student working toward her Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering at the University of New Mexico. She has a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Mexico and a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Akron, Akron, Ohio. (The University of New Mexico is in Albuquerque, New Mexico.) Although she had to face a great deal of frustration and discrimination (especially lately for medical reasons), she encourages girls and women to actively pursue the sciences.
