Kathryn Flanagan's job consists of designing and testing instruments for the Advanced X-ray Astrophysics Facility,
or AXAF. AXAF is a space telescope planned to study the emission of x-rays from object such as
neutron stars, black holes,
and supernova remnants.
Dr. Flanagan is part of a team of scientists responsible for an intricate and delicate feat of engineering-- the design and calibration of a multi-million-dollar high-resolution imagery camera.
