ADVANTAGES OF VULCANICITY
Fertile soil is formed at volcanic areas. This is why the
slopes of volcanoes in Central Java, Indonesia, are terraced for padi cultivation.
Precious stones and minerals such as silver, gold, diamonds and
sulphur are formed during vulcanicity. This enables mining to be carried out.
Hot springs contain mineralized water believed to have
medical value. Thus becoming Health Spas.
Geothermal energy derived from the heat of the superheated
underground watering volcanic areas can be used to produce electricity. e.g. New Zealand
and Japan
Tourism . Tourists are attracted to volcanic features such as
geysers and spectacularly scenic volcanoes e.g. Mt Fuji in Japan.
Volcanic ashes can be used to surface roads and manufacture bricks.
Sulphur deposits in volcanic areas are mined for industrial uses.
DISADVANTAGES OF VULCANICITY
Volcanic eruptions cause destruction to lives and property.
Poisonous gases e.g. Carbon Monoxide, ash and volcanic dust pollute
the environment for months or years. They damage respiratory systems of people and
lifestocks, and contaminate water sources and vegetation.
When the steam is ejected during an eruption condenses, heavy rain falls
and cause floods. Ejected sulphur particles causes the thinning of the ozone layer.
Explosive eruptions near the coastland in the sea create huge sea waves
called tsunamis. Which then, destroyed settlements and lives.

LOCATION OF VOLCANOES
Volcanoes are mainly found along those plate boundaries :-
where an oceanic plate and continental plate meet
where two oceanic plates meet
Where plates move apart
