  1. Early warnings of earthquakes :

    using advanced equipment to predict earthquakes and tsunamis
    Water levels in wells rising & falling

  2. Reinforcing buildings and bridges to withstand earthquakes.

  3. Limiting the height and density of buildings in earthquake -prone areas.

  4. Equipping electricity generators with shutdown switches which are activated by seismic waves.

  5. Automatic shutoffs of gas pipes and electricity supplies. Usage of fireproof materials in buildings to reduce outbreak of fire.

  6. Regular earthquake drills  to prepare people for emergencies.

  7. Stockpiling food and drinking water, and providing survival kits for emergency use
