Spreading over a large area in the central part of the main island, Camp Zukeran is in Okinawa city, Ginowan city, Chatan town and Kitanakagusuku village. Marine Corps Base Headquarters and the U.S. Forces Japan's Okinawa Area Field Office are located here, and the camp functions as the center of the Marine Corps. Also, weapon and equipment maintenance facilities, a residential area, golf course and all other functions needed for the U.S. military stationed abroad are located here. The differences between the living environments of the U.S. military personnel and the Okinawan citizens can be seen by looking at the greenery covering the facility and the lack of greenery in the town beside the facility.
