
Spreading across the villages of Kunigami and Higashi, the Northern Training Area is the largest training facility in Okinawa. This region is the largest forested area of main Okinawa island and its abundant natural environment is a habitat for the nationally protected, rare birds called Noguchigera (Pryers' Woodpecker) and Yanbaru Kuina (Okinawan Rail).
