IN FLIGHT: Safety
------------------------------------------------------------------------
With the increased air traffic today, the likelihood of two airplanes colliding
increase. Even the probability of a failure on the aircraft increases as flight
mechanics are pressured to quickly repair planes.
Time is money, and money is lives.
Human error can be costly and this has become a concern amongst the public.
The position of every aircraft in the sky is always being closely monitored
on radar screens at local air traffic control (ATC) stations. Air space traffic
around the world has drastically increased. However, computers aboard aircraft
are far more highly advanced than those computer systems at ATC's. In addition,
the type of ATC system at one air traffic station might not necessarily match
the ATC system at a neighboring station. Because of these inconstancies at ATC,
there may be a lot of near misses and accidents.
Most pilots, now a days are certified on flight simulators. What this means
is that a pilot could never step into a real airplane and still be certified
to fly that airplane.
