Municipal and city in Belgium, capital of the
province with the same name.Situated near the river the Schelde. The surface is 204,51
km2, with (1996) 455.852 inhabitants. Antwerpen is the second municipal of Belgium by
inhabitants and area. The port of Antwerp is the second of Europe and the fifth of the
world. The agglomeration Antwerp consists of the municipal Brasschaat, Edegem, Mortsel,
Schoten en Zwijndrecht, heeft een oppervlakte van 314, 45 km2 en telt (1996) 591!022 inw.
