After the Christmas holidays in December 1997 we saw a poster in our school, the CSW. It would be a challenge to make a educational homepage.

We decided to work together and began with the preparations. Jachin should do the HTML, Job was the teamleader and should do the organization, and Wouter would do the texts.

Creativity and perseverance was presented and we had the intention to bring it to a good end.

We met each other several times and agreed that having the Deltaworks as subject was a good idea. Since the flood of 1953 many publications appeared about this subject. Certainly, there was too much information and we had to make an attractive, instructive, eye-catching and thrilling homepage and we had so little time.

The information shouldn’t be too detailed and on the other hand not incomplete. Which source should we take?

We decided to approach WaterLand Neeltje Jans. This commercial tourist recreation and exhibition center near the Oosterscheldedam has an advanced library. They welcomed us and after a good and long discussion they agreed that we could use their information.

We were looking for a coach and found one: Dolf. He was exacting, optimistic, calm and capable. He could mean very much for us. We asked another person, Ruud, to advise us on the technical side of this project.

Our school gave us permission to take part in this contest and was willing to support our team. But there was only one internet-computer for all students! This was a big problem but we had no other alternatives.

We got envelopes, paper and stamps for free to write to the cities that we wanted to have in our page. Our school performances didn’t suffer under these activities, thank goodness.

We wrote articles, made pictures, composed music, made a video, etc. and cosulted many people. We realized that all the information on the Delta Works could not be foud in just one archive: all files were scattered all over the Netherlands. Doing research took much time. We went to many libraries.

Job van de Sande The Deltaworks was a very special subject for it’s variety:

-safety
-environment
-nature
-technique
-history
-future

It was a nice and educative time and we learned a lot. We learned to co-operate, making plans, being inventive and creative with the primitive make someting inviting for people from other countries. It is very difficult to explain what the need is of the Deltaworks in such a small land as the Netherlands is.

Wouter had to do a lot of text and Job had to oginise everything as a timeleader. He had to do the text also and help with images and a bit with HTML. Jachin did almost all the HTML and most of the pictures. Dolf supported us with tips about all sorts of things.
The small boy in the left-corner is made by the team and not copied from a Clipart.

The last weeks of the contest Jachin and Job and Dolf began to make the homepage work. Wouter helped with the last necessary translations and Jachin made all the HTML-pages.

Eventually this was the page we builded. We hope you like it and that you have even more fun with reading, watching and browsing through it as we had with building it.

We wish you much fun,

The Deltateam
