Veersedam

GeneralThe planClosingThe construction

The Veersedam connects Walcheren and Noord-Beveland. This dam was built on the west side of the future Veersemeer and the main purpose of this dam was to protect the south part of Noord Beveland against the sea.

The problem with designing this dam was to stop the water flow every time the tides changes: 70 million m3.
Because of this great amount they could not use caissons the same way they did with the Zandkreekdam, situated on the east side. When they should have done that the current in the smaller growing opening should be uncontrollable.
