Veersedam

GeneralThe planClosingThe construction

The last caisson is placed The seven permeable caissons were assembled in a special made dock. These caissons were tugged from this construction-dock to their places above the threshold. On the east-side the slides were lifted and the caissons were filled with water, they sank and stayed open and for the time being.
On April 27 the slides were lowered, the Veersedam was closed and the Veersemeer was born. In the final stage the caissons were filled with sand, embedded in stones and covered with sand. All this was covered with a thick layer if asphalt. On the east side (the lake side)of the dam the created a road and on the west side ( the sea side) the created a beach. Twenty years later the covered most of the dam (exept the road of course) again with sand and nature had a chance to create her own dunes.
