The Oosterschelde-dam reduces the tidal movements in the Oosterschelde. To keep the differences in levels of high and low tide they had to decrease the amount of water in the Oosterschelde. This was done by two dams: the Philips-dam (between the already built Grevelingen-dam and the island St.Philipsland) and the Oesterdam Artist impression of the locks in the Philipsdam
(between Zuid-Beveland and the island Tholen).
On the east side of the Philips-dam a fresh water lake was formed with a fixated water level. This lake is a part of the route of ships from Rotterdam and back.
