In 1977 they started building an island on the Plaat van de Vliet of 960.000 m2. also a construction dock of 190.000 m2 was made. One million m3 earth and sand was dug out and 1.3 million m3 sand was put back. On September 1979 the first layer of concrete could be poured out. Totally 370.000 m3 concrete was used with 27 million kilograms of steel reinforcement bars and wires. This was finished in 1984, three years sooner than planned.
