Oesterdam

GeneralThe planThe construction

The channel is 140 meters wide and 7 meters deep an it has a great capacity. Per day 8.5 million m3 water can flow it from the lakes. To refresh the water in the lakes a channel from the Hollands-Diep is dug with a capacity of 100 m3 per second.
The man-made Markiezaat-meer contained fresh water within a few years after constructing. Nowadays this is a unique lake for there is just a small border between fresh and salt water and according to the World Wildlife Foundation it has a great value for nature conservation.
