GeneralHistoryObjectionWhyThe planThe construction

Two 80 meters wide slides between as flood barrier were designed. These slides were hung between lifting towers, they were only lowered in case of danger. When the water level is 2.5 meters +NAP ships have no problem passing this construction. Still there was a lock constructed beside the slides so ships can pass when the slides are lowered. Two columns under construction
Of course these slides not only are lowered by storm or extreme high tide but also for inspection and maintenance. This flood barrier links the Krimpenerwaard with the main land. A bridge and road over the lock and slide construction replaced an old ferry.
