bilion guilders to a piece of land with less than 300.000 inhabitants.For centuries the
Dutch were busy claiming land from the sea. Each square meter of fertile land had to be
fought for.
It was never thought to make these Delatsworks as expensive but many concessions had to
be made to nature and environment. The Delta was the origin of life in the Noordzee and
this had to maintained.
