Kabelbaan over het Brouwershavensche Gat For closing the south gully a cable-railway was needed which could do this in 9 or 10 weeks. For building the south part of the dam 600.000 tons of stones and rocks were needed Calculation showed that each hour 700 tons should be dropped. By building another dam they have experienced that many things could go wrong so they decided they need a cable railway with a capacity of 1200 tons per hour.
On the mainland and on the Middenplaat a tower was built with rotating disks to lead the cable. At each tower special loading docks for the cable-trolley’s. In the middle of the south gully two extra poles gave the cable extra strength. Cable railway plus loading docks had a total length of 1759 meters. Each trolley had a capacity of 15 tons. Each trolley must be able to transport 6 special made concrete blocks of 2.5 tons each. The trolleys were provided with gas turbines instead of diesel engines. The trolleys had a maximum speed of 7.5 meters per second.

240.000 concrete blocks were dropped in the south gully and a permeable dam was created. Holes were filled and also the whole dam was covered with sand.
