Gianni Versace
Gianni Versace was born in Reggio Calabria on the 2nd of
December on 1946. His work is both metaphorical, because of its
larger-then-life exuberance and bravura in design, and real
clothing, because of the attention to the comfort of the wearer. Hi
apparel design reveals the body in dramatic, sexy clothing and
abundant swathing suggest Vionnet, Madame Gr=E8s, and North Africa.
He also has a fascination with black-and-white grids and
alternations which recalls the 1920s and 1930s. His metaphorical
clothing can be worn or perceived in several ways, a philosophy
which has much in common to Tokyo's fashion. Versace's menswear is
sensual in its use of leather and body wrapping and comfortable
because of its oversizing. Yet, it is sometimes criticized as being
futuristic with its big shoulders and technological detailing which
seems to recall the idea of science fiction. But most of all,
Versace encompasses many aspects of classical tradition, yet
manages to be neither a secluded scholastic nor the glittery
designer of stars and celebrities as some may think. |
