Hairsytles grew longer, at the end of the decade the page-boy (staright and turned under at the ends) or upsweep (on top in curls or braids) were fashionable. During the war a high pompadour at the front and sides with a U shaped roll at the back was popular. Snoods (crocheted ornament which held hair in a bundle at the back of the neck) which were popular during the civil war returned to fashion for women in factories.
