Calvin Klein

Born in the Bronx, N.Y. on November 19, 1942, Calvin Klein is the quintessential fashion expression of America's past 25 years. Very characteristic of Klein fashion is the sensibility for minimalist aesthetics, and the attention given to marketing. His clothing avoid linings and complications, letting the wearer enjoy much freedom and mobility. This chaste construction , along with the use of few expensive fabrics, allow for the cost of the production to be cut and thus maximize the economic effect. In fact, Klein's minimal construction promotes mass manufacturing and his ease allows comfortable dressing in all sizes and shapes. Klein's spare cut isn't exactly architectural, but as Bernadine Morris stated, it's "without frills". To boost his marketing, Klein also used much television advertising, with an aggressive even opportunistic address to gender and sexuality. His campaigns have progressively become more provocative, always moving beyond the prior campaign. Klein has made a distinct contribution to America's culture in advertising since he transported fashion sensibility to clothing classifications laden in sexuality such as underwear and jeans.
